On arrival in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, meet our representative and other travelers (pilgrims) at a designated point. Drive to Nepalgunj, a small border city in Nepal, sharing its border with the Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, India. The distance between Lucknow and Nepalgunj is approximately 188 km, and the drive will take around 4 to 5 hours.
On the way, stop for tea, coffee, or lunch. Later, continue your drive to reach Nepalgunj. On arrival, our rep will help you check in at the pre-booked hotel. Freshen up and relax. You may also go to visit the famous Bageshwori Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bageshwori, an incarnation of Maa Durga. In the evening, our representative or staff will organize a yatra briefing session for all the group members. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Nepalgunj, Nepal.
After an early breakfast, check out of the hotel. Our representative will take you to the Nepalgunj Airport. Board the scheduled flight to Simikot. The flight between Nepalgunj and Simikot is a complicated part of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. Only smaller aircraft operate, and the operation depends on the weather conditions. The route is infamous for its unpredictable weather conditions, as they keep changing. This can cause short or long delays in reaching Simikot, Nepal. On arrival in Simikot, our representative will meet you and transfer you to the airport and then to the hotel for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay. The beautiful surroundings of Simikot during the evening will mesmerize you. If the weather and situation permit, we can take a helicopter trip to Hilsa today itself; otherwise, the overnight stay will be at Simikot.
In the morning, our representative will bring the group to Simikot Airport. Board the helicopter to reach Hilsa. It will be a 25-minute air journey from Simikot to Hilsa. The helicopter will accommodate a group of a maximum of 5 travelers at a time. On arrival in Hilsa, walk through a swinging bridge to cross the river and reach the immigration counter on the Nepal side. You will need to finish the customs and immigration formalities, which can take 2-3 hours. Thereafter, cross the Nepal-China border on foot and enter the China side. Here, you will find a bus waiting for you and the group. Then, the bus will take you to the China Immigration building. After completing the immigration check formalities, take a short drive to reach Taklakot (Burang). On the way, the bus will stop at the China Customs building for checking. On arrival in Taklakot, our representative will transfer you to the pre-booked hotel or guesthouse. Freshen up and relax. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Taklakot, Tibet, an autonomous region of China.
Today, the group will stay at Taklakot itself and spend the day free for acclimatization to the harsh weather of the place. All meals will be provided at the hotel. You can also go to explore local markets and buy some fruits, eatables, and other items you may need during your further journey. It is good to practice some light trekking at Taklakot so that you can get used to it for the upcoming trekking routes. Our guide will assist you in this regard.
Have a very hearty breakfast at the hotel and then drive from Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar. On the way, stop near Rakshastal (the Lake of Demons), also called the Ravana Taal. From here, you will have a beautiful view of Mount Kailash (the Abode of Lord Shiva), standing tall among other snow-clad mountain peaks. Spend some time at Rakshastal and enjoy photography with the family, friends, and the group. Later, continue your journey to reach Chiu Gompa near Lake Mansarovar. Check into your pre-booked guesthouse. After some relaxation, visit Lake Mansarovar and explore the beauty of nature around the lake. Take a holy bath in the lake and perform rituals as per your customs. Do some meditation in the peaceful atmosphere. Thereafter, join the group for the parikrama of the holy lake by bus. The parikrama will cover the distance of 90 km and take around 3 hours. During the parikrama, the bus will stop in between, from where you will have the opportunity to view the holy lake and Mount Kailash from a different angle. Return on time to the guest house for dinner and overnight stay.
If you want to go to Lake Mansarovar for a holy bath and puja, do it as quickly as possible. However, you need to discuss it with your guide beforehand. Return to your accommodation for breakfast. Thereafter, drive for 33 km to reach Darchen. Here you will find several hotels, guesthouses, shops, and markets. Darchen is the starting point of the parikrama of the Holy Mount Kailash. The bus will drop you at the Tarboche flagpole, from where you will start the parikrama.
If you wish, you can hire a horse/pony and a porter for trekking. Just a few minutes of trekking from Darchen to Dirapuk, you will see Yam Dwar (Gate to Moksha) and the beautiful view of the south face of Mount Kailash. On the trekking route, you will see several beautiful sites and some lovely water bodies. During the trek, take care of yourself. Walk slowly and keep yourself hydrated. Drink hot water or juice and keep moving forward towards your destination. The group will stop in between at a tea stall or juice shop from where you can buy some more water and juices.
On arrival at Dirapuk, check into a guesthouse. Dirapuk is a beautiful place from which you will have the closest view of the north face of Mount Kailash. Take pictures, do some meditation, and have your dinner. Go to bed quickly because the night will be extremely cold here.
Get up in the early morning and come outside your guesthouse. You will have the golden opportunity to see the magical moment when Mount Kailash changes its color in the morning. Get the darshan of the spectacular view of the Golden Kailash. If you are lucky, you can notice some magical activities and miracles near the mountain.
Next, proceed for your second day of parikrama (trek) of Mount Kailash towards Zuthulpukh. The 19 km of the trek will be challenging, as you will have to cross the highest point, 5650 m, at Dolma La Pass. After one hour of trekking from Dirapuk, you will reach Dolma La Pass. Near this place, you will see the ‘Shiva Tsal’ (also spelled as Shiva Sthal). The ascent and descent near Dolma La Pass are rocky and steep, becoming even more challenging and slippery during rain or snowfall. So, be extra careful during the Dolma La Pass trek. After one hour of trekking from Dirapuk, you will reach Dolma La Pass. Near this place, you will see the ‘Shiva Tsal’ (also spelled as Shiva Sthal). After crossing Dolma La Pass, you will have a beautiful view of Gauri Kund (Parvati Kund or Parvati Sarovar) on the right side of your trek. Have darshan and continue your trek to reach Zuthulpukh. On arrival, check into the guesthouse. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Zuthulpukh.
Have your breakfast at the guesthouse. Explore the nearby places like caves, temples, and shrines. Trek back to Darchen. At Darchen, your bus will be waiting to transfer you to Taklakot. Drive past Lake Mansarovar and complete the parikrama of the lake by vehicle. On arrival in Taklakot, you will be transferred to your guesthouse. Freshen up and relax. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the guesthouse in Taklakot.
Have a very hearty breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the China-Nepal border and complete the immigration formalities. Thereafter, walk to Hilsa. At Hilsa, the helicopter will transfer the group to Simikot. In Simikot, take the flight to Nepalgunj, Nepal. On arrival in Nepalgunj, drive back to Lucknow. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra concludes.
